Start as you mean to go on……I heard this phrase a few years ago. The person using it explained that instead of making resolutions, which are often broken, she “starts as she means to go on.” It’s an old British expression, meaning you should begin any new enterprise by acting and sounding as if it were already a success.
So now, I start each year as I mean to go on: Connected to my family, healthy, and happy.

A healthy salad to start things off on the right foot.

Wheat Berry Salad

3 C cooked wheat berries
2 C sliced red cabbage
1 shallot minced
1 apple cubed
1 stalk celery chopped
2 Tbs cilantro chopped
Dressing:
1/4 c Greek yogurt
1 Tbs honey mustard
2 Tbs olive oil
1 Tbs apple cider vinegar

Salt and pepper to taste
Toasted walnuts (optional)

Mix ingredients for dressing. Toss the rest of the ingredients with the dressing. If desired sprinkle with toasted walnuts just before serving.
